For a climate-friendly and responsible energy future
Primeo Commerce Product Charta
As an energy service provider, we are not only responsible for ensuring a secure electricity supply, but also for promoting conscious energy use in everyday life. For us, selling energy-related products is not an end in itself – rather, it should contribute to promoting sensible solutions, avoiding emissions, and saving energy wherever possible. With our Primeo Energy Shop, we want to make consumer decisions more transparent, informed, and sustainable. We are aware that the most effective contribution to reducing emissions remains avoiding unnecessary consumption. This makes it all the more important for us to offer a reliable basis for decision-making in our online shop for those who want to shop consciously.
This product charter sets out the principles according to which we design our product range. It shows which criteria are important to us—and where we consciously draw the line. Because not every product that is marketed as “green” actually contributes to climate protection. We want to offer guidance in a confusing market where efficiency, benefits, and credibility are often not apparent at first glance.
We rely on clear principles rather than sales promises. Our stance: those who save energy protect the climate. And those who still consume energy should be given the best possible option – transparent, functional, and with added value. Our responsibility does not end with the product: we require our suppliers to adhere to Primeo Energie's code of conduct and ethics, which sets out our binding expectations regarding social, environmental, and ethical standards throughout the supply chain.
Our self-imposed code of conduct within the online shop also includes the following cornerstones:
1. Avoiding rebound effects and greenwashing
We do not advertise products with supposedly “green” labels if they do not demonstrably contribute to energy efficiency or emission reduction. A product that consumes electricity is not ‘sustainable’ per se – even if it has “Eco” in its name.
2. Transparent product information
Our customers should be able to make informed purchasing decisions. That is why, wherever possible, we provide transparent information about:
- Country of manufacture,
- Energy efficiency,
- Recyclability and disposal options,
- Energy consumption during operation.
Unfortunately, not all manufacturers provide this information as standard. In such cases, we request the missing information or research it using other sources. We are working on ensuring that the origin of our products is clearly and transparently indicated in all categories in the future.
3. Education before sales promotion
We focus on education rather than pure sales promotion and are working to consistently implement this approach and integrate it firmly into our communication:
Tips for saving energy in everyday life,
Information on more efficient alternatives,
Recommendations for conscious, reduced consumption,
Communication campaigns under the motto: “Less is more.”
4. Seasonal product ranges with purpose
For seasonal topics such as summer heat, we consciously focus on:
passive cooling methods (e.g., sun sails, window films),
energy-efficient fans as an alternative to air conditioners,
structural tips for avoiding heat build-up,
air conditioners only with clear efficiency labeling and neutral information on energy consumption.
Our self-conception
1.Our general measures as an online shop operator
a) Partnership with Topten
Primeo Energie is the main partner of Topten, the independent comparison platform for the most energy-efficient products in Switzerland. Topten evaluates devices based on objective criteria such as energy consumption, environmental impact, and quality—and supports consumers and institutions in making informed, sustainable purchasing decisions. As a partner, we are in regular contact with Topten in order to keep up with the latest developments in energy efficiency and to highlight particularly efficient products in our range. We are currently in the process of aligning our product range with the recommendations of topten.ch – in the future, we want to stock more products that are listed there or meet comparable efficiency standards. Several of our products are already listed on Topten. Further information can be found here.
b) MyClimate partnership
In cooperation with our recognized partner myclimate, we are contributing to a sustainable future – and are the only online shop in Switzerland to pay the climate protection contribution on every shopping cart for you. This contribution corresponds to 2% of the recommended retail price of the products purchased and is invested directly in myclimate's climate protection projects. Further information can be found here.
c) Shipping partner Swiss Post
By choosing Swiss Post as our shipping partner, we have made a conscious decision to handle your parcels responsibly. Swiss Post pursues a holistic approach to sustainability, guided by the Sustainable Development Goals, and is a member of the UN Global Compact to ensure responsible corporate governance. In addition to expanding CO2-neutral letter delivery, a nationwide switch to electric vehicles is planned by 2030. The uniforms and clothing worn by employees are made from 100% fairly produced items and carry the Fair Wear label. Further information on Swiss Post's sustainability initiatives can be found here.
d) Packaging of our items
When picking orders, we make sure that the appropriate size of cardboard box is used to avoid unnecessary volume and thus waste of resources. When using filling material, we use old, shredded cardboard boxes that are no longer usable, as well as biodegradable filling material.
e) Website hosting
We host our website with a sustainable Swiss server provider that uses only renewable energy sources and is completely climate-neutral thanks to its climate protection contributions.
f) Employees
We strive to make the work-life balance of Primeo Energie Shop employees more flexible within the scope of business requirements and enable location-independent working. We promote a healthy lifestyle by offering healthy drinks and fruit in the office. The further development of individual employees is also important to us.
2. Climate relevance as a selection criterion for our products
Reducing consumption remains the most effective means of reducing emissions. Where consumption does occur, however, we want to offer a better, more transparent, and climate-friendly option.
We prefer to stock products that:
- reduce energy consumption (e.g., efficient household appliances, smart control technology, LED lighting, etc.),
- make energy use more conscious (e.g., timers, measuring devices, thermostats),
- reduce water consumption (e.g., water-saving shower heads, jet regulators, smart garden irrigation),
- enable the use of renewable energies (e.g., plug-in photovoltaic systems, small battery storage systems)
- support sustainable mobility (e.g., e-bikes, e-scooters, charging stations, charging cables, adapters)
offer alternatives to conventional consumption (e.g., repair accessories, sustainable gardening solutions),
- or improve living comfort without promoting unnecessary energy consumption.
Supplementary product range
In addition to our core range, we stock selected products that facilitate conscious energy use and enable sustainable living comfort.
- Smart home solutions enable connectivity in the home for central energy consumption monitoring and control (e.g., smart home controls, hubs).
- Security solutions, some of which are part of a networked smart home, offer additional protection in everyday life – without significant energy consumption (e.g., cameras, access controls, fire and water protection sensors).
- Products for a healthy indoor climate promote well-being and health in everyday living – without energy-intensive technology (e.g., temperature and humidity sensors, energy-saving fans, passive cooling aids such as sun protection films).
We see these categories as a useful addition if they contribute to greater efficiency, comfort, health, and conscious controllability in everyday life.
Why we also have foreign-made products in our range
When selecting our products, we pay attention to energy efficiency, durability, and benefits for sustainable everyday living. Some of our items—such as solar-powered garden lights—are currently manufactured in Asia, mostly in China. We are aware that this generates so-called gray energy—emissions that arise during production and transport.
Nevertheless, we have deliberately included selected products for the following reasons:
- Energy savings during operation: Thanks to solar power, LED technology, twilight sensors, and other innovative energy-saving technologies, these products make a long-term contribution to reducing electricity consumption.
- Contribution to climate protection: For all purchases made in our shop, we make a climate protection contribution and invest it in climate protection projects.
- Raising awareness: We want to help customers take their first steps towards sustainable living and support them with our product range and recommendations.
In the long term, our goal is to focus more on products manufactured in Europe or Switzerland. For each product, we carefully check whether the ecological benefits in everyday use justify the environmental impact of its manufacture – and where there are better alternatives.
We take responsibility beyond today's consumption – and design our product range in such a way that the needs of future generations are also met. For us, sustainability is not a state that can be achieved once and for all, but an ongoing process that requires constant questioning and further development. To provide guidance in a confusing market, we also focus on product labeling that is as transparent as possible: wherever possible, we make the origin, energy consumption, and special sustainability features visible. We know that this requirement cannot be fully implemented immediately in all areas. Nevertheless, we are pursuing it consistently and are continuously developing our product range, customer communication, and transparency.

Our stance and responsibility
We take criticism seriously. The web shop is part of our educational and service mission. Our goal is not to maximize sales, but to promote conscious, climate-sensitive consumer behavior. At the same time, we operate in a highly competitive e-commerce environment that challenges us to combine ecological responsibility, economic viability, and social fairness. In order to run our shop in a cost-effective manner and secure the associated services—such as consulting, education, and promotion of sustainable alternatives—in the long term, we must also make economically viable decisions.
This also applies to product procurement: wherever possible, we give preference to manufacturers from Switzerland or Europe with high sustainability standards. In some product categories, such as solar lights or electronic components, however, we do use overseas manufacturers if there are currently no equivalent alternatives or if the costs are significantly above the market standard. Here, too, we consistently focus on efficiency, durability, and the most sustainable operation possible throughout the entire life cycle—for real ecological benefits in everyday life.
Our claim remains: conscious consumption instead of blind consumption—even if this is not always an easy path to take in the daily balancing act between impact and economic efficiency.
