CO2 compensated products

When you're shopping in Primeo Energie's online store, you do this in a completely CO2-compensated manner.

The effects of climate change are becoming increasingly noticeable. To make our online store more sustainable, we enable climate-compensated shopping in cooperation with our partner South Pole - and the best thing about it: We take care of the compensation costs of your ordered products.

We compensate the CO2 emissions generated over the entire life cycle for those products you purchase by investing in official climate protection projects by our partner South Pole. The various climate protection projects avoid emissions of greenhouse gases or extract CO2 from the atmosphere and bind it. In addition, these projects contribute overall to sustainable development and create added value for the local population, such as through access to work, clean drinking water or education. With us, you're shopping completely CO2-compensated, and without additional costs for you.

Calculation of emissions

Our partner South Pole analyzed all the products in Primeo Energie's online store and calculated the average CO2 emissions per product over its entire life cycle. To simplify the calculation, the products were divided into categories, for which an emission factor per kilogram was then calculated.

When calculating the emission factors, all emissions were included that occur during the extraction of raw materials, production, transport of goods, sale, distribution to customers, use and disposal. This is also known as the "cradle-to-grave" principle, in which the entire life cycle of the products is represented.

Projects

We offset the emissions through various climate protection projects around the world, including these projects:

Isangi Forest Project in Congo

This project is about protecting rainforest ecosystems in the Congo Basin: 187,000 hectares of one of the most biodiverse rainforests on earth are being protected from deforestation.

As carbon sinks, forests play an important role in combating climate change - so if the region is deforested, this releases stored carbon and damages the ecosystem's biodiversity. The project also contributes greatly to local poverty alleviation by promoting sustainable economic opportunities and developing educational initiatives so that remote communities in one of the world's poorest countries have opportunities for a better future.

Prony Wind Power

Islands of the Pacific Ocean like New Caledonia face serious environmental and socioeconomic pressures that are exacerbated by climate change. Pacific Island nations are already severely affected by extreme weather and climate variability, and their inhabitants are amongst the world's most vulnerable communities to the growing effects of climate change. Yet in New Caledonia, 80% of energy demands are met by fossil fuel power plants.

Frequently asked questions

Why should the level of CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere be reduced?

It is scientifically proven that increased levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere drive global warming (global warming). This, in turn, is causing extreme weather changes around the world and threatening human resources and habitats. Greenhouse gas emissions occur primarily from the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas. These emissions also occur during the production and transport of products such as those available in Primeo Energie's online store. As part of the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015, the vast majority of countries in the world recognized the urgent need for climate protection measures: In order for the earth to remain a habitable planet and continue to support humanity, emissions must be drastically reduced worldwide.
